Eastern Cape farmer slain in farm attack
Wed, Wednesday, January 15, 2014
Eastern Cape police are searching for two suspects who shot and killed a Barkly East farmer during a robbery on Tuesday night. AfriForum has identified him as Sarel Pretorius of the farm Rooipoort.
Aliwal North police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Nozuku Handile, says his wife was locked in the bathroom during the attack and was not injured. The attackers fled in the direction of Elliot after taking Pretorius' cellphone, cash and firearms.
Handile said police were concentrating their search for the killers in the Elliot and Ugie areas.
Agri Eastern Cape President, Ernest Pringle, condemned the murder of Pretorius.
"Farm attacks have escalated recently, especially in the last year. This is becoming a central core of concern again and is deeply disturbing to us. We are going to have to make sure that our sector policing that have been set up between ourselves and the police become more effective in order to see if we can prevent these attacks from happening." said Pringle
The murder of Pretorius was the second deadly farm attack in the district in recent months.
87-year old David de Villiers and his 86-year old wife Ralie were killed on their farm in October.
AfriForum says the killing of Pretorius was the 5th farm attack in South Africa in the past four days.
It said it would be announcing an action plan next week in an attempt to combat the scourge of farm killings.
*RIP*

Two people killed in East London farm attack
East London police have arrested three suspects following a double murder on maize farms in Gulu outside the city.
Police spokesperson, captain Stephen Marais says the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning when the suspects, aged between 27 and 33, attacked three family members of a 76-year-old farm owner.
He says one person, a relative of the farm owner was killed while two other relatives were injured and admitted to hospital.
Marais also says that the body of a 54-year-old farm worker with a gunshot wound was found later on an adjoining property which is also overseen by the same farmer.
The suspects are due to appear in the East London Magistrates court on Monday

Johannesburg - Limpopo police said on Sunday that a manhunt is under way to find eight men who raped two women and conducted armed robberies on three farms at Tagana's Hoek near Letsitele.
"The gang started their reign of terror around midday [on Saturday] when they attacked and raped a 32-year-old woman, before helping themselves to two rifles, a pistol and R300 in cash," said police spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.
He said the eight men then went to another farm and raped a 59-year-old domestic worker from Zimbabwe.
At the third farm, they stole electrical appliances and DVDs before running into the bushes.
Some of the stolen goods and money was dropped on the way.
Mulaudzi said that two of the men had been identified.
"Their arrest is imminent."
Mulaudzi said if any member of the public was confronted with anybody trying to sell suspected stolen appliances, they should contact the police.

Re: Farm / Rural attacks 2014
My old school friend attacked with a knife and firearm last night close to Muldersdrift area.
As far as I can gather he was busy having a braai with his girlfriend when they surprised them and he got stabbed with a knife and also "pistol whipped". Details are sketchy but I just spoke to him over the phone and he is ok for now. Still in ICU in Krugersdorp pvt hospital.
As I understand it his gf got away, locked herself up in a room and called security and family. This caused them to flee.
Needless to say he was not armed, but he says it would not have made a difference.??
The enemy is a bunch of barbarians that have NO regard for human life and no mercy for anyone.
We need to fight back with the aggression and force that they bring and be prepared for it always.

Re: Farm / Rural attacks 2014
Luckily his GF got away, she saved both their lives! One can only imagine what they would have done to her after stabbing him.
One should always be prepared, whats his reason for saying that being armed would not have made a difference?
