Silencers
If this was posted before, please give me the link.
I have a silencer for my 30.06. How tight must I fix the silencer to the rifle? Last weekend I shot around 40 rounds, and when I was done, the silencer was not tightly screwed on anymore, so I assume I must screw it on tight.

Re: Silencers
Yes...It must be on quite tight. At least tight enough that it does not losen during shooting.

Re: Silencers
Considering that silencers are normally fitted with a right-hand thread, and barrels usually have a right-hand twist, it seem logical that the silencer will loosen with use. The cause is the (slight) torque reaction from the bullet being spun by the rifling.
So, hand-tighten the silencer every few (5-10) shots. If left to loosen, the slight freeplay on the treads might allow the silencer to move off-center, causing it to be hit by the bullet. If just lightly nicked, it will cause major inaccuracy. A little bit more, and the silencer is shot to bits.

Re: Silencers
Yeah make it tight!
On wed my dad was on the range. Suddenly there was a funny sound and a silencer was seen flying through the air into the first sand bank 25m infront of the benches. Everyone stopped by this funny/awkward "projectile". The guy picked it up, found no damage to it or the rifle. Screwed it back on and carried on again. It must have come loose all the way and fly off with that one shot

Re: Silencers
A silencer does not come loose during normal operation when it has been tightened fast, period. If it does so it has not been fitted properly by the gunsmith, I don't care who says what.
