Sas does not have any military angle. It is all about being prepared to respond to a range of emergency situations of which personal defence is just one. From a sporting point of view it is interesting to see how your available firearms perform under Field conditions.

Haha! Nah, you worry too much. There is nothing sinister about it.

You are right in the first part though: it really is a fun way to spend time in the bush with your mates. That's all it is about really.

Who hasn't ever wondered whether you are up to carrying your kit all day long through some very tough terrain... and still be able to shoot straight?

All that cool survival stuff you have - ever tested it? Does it work, can you carry it, can you use it and is it the best for the job?

Only one way to find out - go and try it!

We love the bush, and we love shooting. The bush weekend brings it all together beautifully.

Ps: my prayers are with WillieBees and his people - I trust they will pull through fine.

Its like boy scouts for men, lots of fun, you learn a lot and you make good friends.

The bushweekend last year was great, we walked the farm flat, and its not a flat farm, slept out under the stars, listened to a leopard call and then Bushboy make like a leopard calling :), it wasn't all about shooting as we are all from different walks of life there was a lot of each one teach one, we had pilots, medics, doctors, field guides, office jocs and Camo - no-one knows how too categorise him (duck-run), the shoots were scored and winner got to shoot an impala for rations (JS4) and the best of all you got to just do something totally different for most of us.

The bush weekend is a real test of kit and learning to work as a team with guys you've only known for a few range sessions.

    Ha ha ha

Yes indeed, I understand your confusion - you see 94% of BC is crown land (public land) - ( 89% of All Canada is crown land (not bad for the second largest country on this planet)) -- meaning no one owns it - meaning you can drive on it - hunt on it - all you need is tag to shoot anything - farmers don't own the animals the government owns all the animals and all the fish (tags cost between $15 (buck) and $50 (bear)) - you can fish its rivers - camp where you like - and generally no one bothers you, unless you behave strangely.

We camp under the stars with sil tarps and hammocks all sumer long - when you go higher into the alpine hunting sheep, you need to be a bit more careful - mountain weather can kill you. First aid and veldt cooking is part of our everyday life when we hunt.

Now back in the day - when I did my national service - I spent some time in Ruacana, Ondongwa and Grootfontein during those first 2 years - and ten 3 months camps that followed.

I think I know how to deploy properly, I can do rond-om-verdeedhigings, sweep game trails and roads - I know how to have a great (and safe) time in the bos with a R1/ R4 / AR / SKS.

Today, living where I do - the RCMP (google if you have to) would take a dim view if my chommies and I tried any of that on crown land - You see "redneck behaviour" on public land is frowned upon over here, and rightfully so.

We can own as many firearms as we please (with some restrictions - anti tank guns and anti aircraft guns aren't too popular with the politicians) - our government doesn't even have a long gun register - it believes that we are responsible enough to own guns - so it doesn't need to keep tabs on us. this, in itself speaks magnitudes about freedoms.

Now having put some prospective on my original post - I hope I did not mislead or offend anyone, if so - I appologise.
