Re: How much would you pay to have your knife sharpened?
There is a company branded car that drives around the Northern Suburbs in Cape Town which offers professional chef knife sharpening services.
For my personal pocket/EDC knives I'd be willing to pay around R50-100.

lol, my EDC only costs R100, so sharpening it would need to be fairly cheap.

Re: How much would you pay to have your knife sharpened?
Thanks for the replies and for the hints Toxxyc!
I purely used Braso and the old belt as it was all I had with me last night.
I am going to get a proper strop belt this week or next week.
Yeah I guess to do it quickly is what it is all about.
I am going to look at that Tormek now. Damn I don't want to buy another machine now just after buying my lansky set :P

It's simple. Use the Tormek for proper blades. I still use my Lansky for cheap kitchen knives and whatnot, simply because a sharpening stone for the Tormek runs at about R2k.

There's a guy that sharpens knives in Durban, charges about R50 a knife, so you'd have to find a way of doing it in less than three hours to make it worth it..

Re: How much would you pay to have your knife sharpened?
I bought mine used. was 225mm dia form the 250mm original wheel. Try as I might it just keeps on going. I want the faster cutting black wheel but not before wearing out this one. With proper use the wheel needs dressing very infrequently. Will probably be another 4 years before I can change it. I don't use it everyday...

How much would you pay to have your knife sharpened?
From what I recall sharp edge in sandton charge around R50 or so to sharpen but when I last enquired their machine was broken.
