Re: The current state of SAGA
With that said... what are our alternatives?
I didnt renew my SAGA membership as I wanted to see where that ship was steering.
Its obviously headibg towards an iceberg, so do we go GOSA?

Re: The current state of SAGA
Thank you Martin. It has been an illuminating read, although sadly not a surprising one. :(
The future holds much promise though.

Re: The current state of SAGA
....so do we go GOSA?
I suggest we get a proper GOSA thread going where the aims, structure, atc. etc. are properly spelled out and that will serve as a guideline of how we get involved with them and actively start to participate. I would slos like to see a real action plan of how GOSA will be registered as (another?) official voice for firearm owners with the SAPS ...
I have been making similar comments/asking similar questions on a number of posts, and I think it is time things get properly consolidated ...

Re: The current state of SAGA
Thanks Martin. It is a breath of fresh air to get some decent info on what has happened. A lot of what you say has come through Gunsite but it is in small portions and usually second hand so I never know how much can be believed and it is difficult to pass on because no one wants to be seen spreading untruths or false rumors. Most of what I have heard appears to be true but it is good to get confirmation.

It is in progress, just hang in there a little longer. Basic principles and guidelines will be out by Wednesday, membership structuring shortly thereafter.
As for "registration" with SAPS... Huh? GOSA is not looking to become an accredited sport shooting/hunting association, so there is no need to register with SAPS, neither is SAGA.
GOSA will become a recognised voice of gun owners through membership representaion and making our collective voices heard. You don't need to register with anyone for that.Be ready for anything, and if his head is not at least two meters away from the body, do not 'assume' he is dead and out of the fight. - Ikor

Re: The current state of SAGA
OK I get the no registration with SAPS etc.
However that said, unfortunately SAGA is seen by SAPS and the Media as "our official voice" This I think is a based on a historical legacy and somehow needs to be addressed.
Thought??
One way is to have both current and past SAGA members (that are in agreement) send a letter addressed to both SAPS and SAGA (and possibly the media) that they are no longer speaking on behalf of said individual. One person doing it will not be noticed but if we can get a few thousand then it tends to make an impression.
IF this is properly coordinated and it can happen in the space of a few days (week at the most) then we could mitigate the "SAGA our official voice" legacy and take the wind out of their sails.
It may also be worthwhile for said individuals to nominate a new "official voice" so that SAPS and the media know who to speak to in the future.
It's a thought and probably needs some work.

Re: The current state of SAGA
Thanks Martin!
Just a thought. SAGA used to offer public liability insurance (FA-use), included in the membership fee. This lead to many clubs and associations making SAGA membership compulsory for members. Is this insurance still included? Will GOSA also be able to offer this cover?
Paul and team, kindly consider the options?
