Re: Buffalo horn grip caps
MyLani, thank you, yes these grip caps do have a rough texture, giving it a great appearance. I will router some of the polished ones tomorrow, cut them to the correct thickness and see how the final product looks like . You then at least have a choice between types of manufacturing processes....

Re: Buffalo horn grip caps
Good, I did router two grip caps today to see how it will look..it is not too bad but I need to use dome small files to work down the rough edges caused by the router bit ..

Re: Buffalo horn grip caps
MyLani thank you for the positive reply. Yes, the texture of these boss horn really looks amazing when you have the grip caps in hand. I still prefer the grip cap without a routered border...there are a few options for a person who wants to order a grip cap...smooth buffalo horn , with a router border or without. Course textured buffalo bos with a routered border /or without a border, of I can send a piece of buffalo horn to a person who wants to make his own buffalo grip cap. Buffalo grip caps can be order from me for R300 per grip cap of your choice. Postage for the buyer...I have Giraffe bone and indigenous wood like Tambotie, Olien and Rooibos ( combretum family) as well as Black ivory also known as Zebra wood...you say, I make , you pay..Naturally these material can be use by knife makers as well on the forum. I am making these items to members of the forum available...

Re: Buffalo horn grip caps
So, I ordered some Buffalo Horn Grip caps from Gert, which arrived today.
The quality is excellent. Gert managed to sand them down to a even thickness.
I got one with a routered edge and one plain edge. Both look good.
I will fit them in early Nov after my last clients leave.
I think it will change the aesthetics of the rifles, and a blackwood/ebony forend will complement it nicely.
I can really reccomend buying one from Gert to add to your big bores....A roaring Lion kills no game
