    You can use the flat bottomed pot to bake bread in, but you have to eat it with genuine farm butter, lots of gravy and stuff the cholesterol. Sometimes it goes very well with homemade peach jam (jelly in the states). I have one that is approaching 60 years and still cooks well.

    With the flat bottom the direct contact would cause a greater heat than the top. This also happens with my camp ovens, so I have to pull the oven off of the bottom coals about half way through the baking time and just use the top heat to finish. If cooking with a liquid, such as a soup or stew the bottom heat only is used.

    Had our first real cold front come through yesterday, soup time! Some chicken w/vegetable soup.
