Default Quick-thinking officer foils a burglary-in-progress in Van Riebeeckshof

A burglary-in-progress was foiled at a property in Boschendal Street, Van Riebeeckshof, on the 23rd April 2014, thanks to the quick-thinking of Armed Response Officer (ARO) Sithembele Gabelana.

At 19h01, the officer was dispatched following an alarm activation and arrived at the address within three minutes. There he noticed that the gate was open and that a black Audi – with its park lights on – was reversed into the driveway.

ARO Gabelana exited his vehicle to investigate, and as he entered the property a suspect fired shots at him. The officer took cover behind his vehicle from where he returned fire. The suspect then called out to his accomplices; two men exited the house into the car that immediately sped off.

Gabelana radioed the Monitoring Centre to notify the South African Police Service and to contact the homeowner. Upon their arrival, it was discovered that the suspects had derailed the driveway gate and forced open the front-door. No-one was injured during the incident.

Hmmm.... according to NHW sources, a black Audi has been involved in a number of incidents in the Somerset West area recently too....

ETA: The "derailing of gate" and "forcing open of front door" is the exact same MO often used here too.

Most probably the same one, also involved in the northern suburbs burglaries. But hard to say since they change their numberplates the whole time.
