The missile before it was detonated.
Pandemonium broke out in the Jacobs area after an explosive device, believed to be a missile, was allegedly found in a local scrap metal dealership in Industria Road, this morning.
The local police and relevant personnel were informed of the incident and immediately arrived at the scene to cordon off the area. Members of the police force quickly evacuated people from the area until the Bomb Squad had the situation under control. Luckily, the explosive device was successfully detonated and no one was injured.
Provincial police spokesman, Col Jay Naicker confirmed the incident. He said, “Brighton Beach SAPS and the Bomb Squad were informed of the incident. Police will investigate the explosive device’s origin. Police on the scene assisted in evacuating people and controlling traffic.”

That looks like a 90mm round from an Eland or Ratel 90, also looks to be a training or dummy round. Wonder how it got there?

Q - if you blow it up, how are you going to establish its origin, other than the fact that it only fits a military canon.

91mm anti - tank projectile finds its way to a scrap metal dealer...how? Its not the kind of thing you simply pick up on the pavement.

Re: Missile found in Durban South vicinity
When the squatta's took over Hammanskraal (military area) they started picking up all things metal to sell as scrap metal. And so Lots of unexploded ordnance made its way to PTA West scrap metal dealers...
Wasn't there an article in the news a couple of years back of an explosion at one of these dealers...? Guy attemted to cut something up with a blowtorch that went 'boom'... I'll see if I can googlefind the article.

A man died and 11 others were seriously injured in an explosion at a scrapyard in the Bon Accord area of Pretoria on Wednesday, the Tshwane metro said.
“Preliminary indications show that there were explosives in the metals with which the men were working at the time of the explosion,” spokesperson William Baloyi said.
The blast rocked the area on Wednesday morning.
Police spokesperson Captain Lucas Sithole said forensics investigators had removed some of the debris to investigate what had caused the explosion.
He denied media reports that the explosion was caused by a mortar shell.
He said sections of the debris may have resembled that of a mortar bomb.
“So it’s just a rumour,” he said.
Beeld newspaper reported on Thursday that the explosion happened when the owner of the scrapyard threw a mortar to the ground to demonstrate that it was harmless.
An eyewitness was quoted as saying: “I told [the owner] that those things [mortars] look very dangerous. I asked him how dangerous they are and he told me they are harmless ... He took one and threw it to the ground and then there was a big bang.”
Inspector Nic de Jager, from the police’s explosives unit, said that someone might have found the mortars on the army’s training grounds in Murray Hill, north of Pretoria, and then sold them to the owner.
The man who was killed was an employee at the scrapyard. The owner was taken to a private hospital in a serious condition, reported Beeld.
