Default Rifle Championships - Polokwane 30/31 August 2014

    Hey guys,

I am very intrigued by the Rifle Championship event.

However, I am a complete noob to SAPSA Rifle events and I might only be able to manage attending one or two 3 Gun events before this.
(I have previously participated in Combat Rifle Shooting competitions but I do not think one can actually compare the two)

So just a few questions (please be patient if they seem silly):

1)Can one still enter this event? ie. or has registration dates already closed?
2)If one can still enter/register for the event where can you do it?
3)What is the ideal training distance? (If I recall correctly 50% of the COF must be between 60m and 150m)
4)What is the recommended amount of magazines one should carry (if using a 30 rounds magazine) Are there mandatory reloads/mag changes?
5)What is the normal or most common shooting position?
6)What is the recommended power factor ie Major or Minor?
7)Is the event 2 days or can you attend only one of the two days?

My main objective for attending such an event is to observe and hopefully learn a thing or two from the top shooters and to have some fun!!

I will greatly appreciate any advise and recommendations.

1)Can one still enter this event? ie. or has registration dates already closed?
Registration is still open, in fact I don't think the entry forms have been sent out as yet.
2)If one can still enter/register for the event where can you do it?
PM your email address to me and as soon as the entry forms are released I will forward them to you. This is under the assumption that you are a registered SAPSA, provincial and club member, as your provincial chairperson would need to sign it.
3)What is the ideal training distance? (If I recall correctly 50% of the COF must be between 60m and 150m)
Last year, the targets were placed at 5m all the way up to 250m. If I recall correctly, there were only about 30-40 rounds at targets placed at 150m+ upwards, from that about 15 rounds 200m+. Hope that gives you an idea.
4)What is the recommended amount of magazines one should carry (if using a 30 rounds magazine)
I have 8 30 round mags, but only use 2 mags on a stage. One in the gun, ad another on my belt.
    Are there mandatory reloads/mag changes?
No mandatory mag changes, but mag changes will be required if the COF is long, extra shots, etc
5)What is the normal or most common shooting position?
The easiest answer is free style. you will probably need to shoot through ports forcing a shooter to shoot from the kneeling position, as well as shooting the long shots from a prone position. I guess its up to you and how the COF is designed.
6)What is the recommended power factor ie Major or Minor?
    min - 150
    maj - 320

7)Is the event 2 days or can you attend only one of the two days?
The match is run over 2 days, meaning you shoot both days.

Shout if you need any more information, and I will share what I have. Are you based in Gauteng? If so pop around for a CGPSA 3 gun league. If you interested, PM for more details.

Can you compete using iron sights - or are you just waisting your time being completely un competitive against the guys running optics?
Why are some of the distances so far?
Can I compete with my rifle as it has been Cerakoted in a como pattern?

Iron sights will compete in Standard division. So you compete against other shooters with the same equipment.
The rifle shoot at polokwane have a few 220m + shots every year.
You can even paint your rifle pink and you'll still be welcome.

This is a very fun and challenging rifle shoot every year. Some difficult stages and shots.

Any forum members shooting this Rifle Champs end of the month?

I see there are some shots past 200m, all the way out to 260m+.
And some interesting shooting positions and stages.

This is a not to miss match! I have heard great things, but easy it will never be, remember it is a selection match for a level 5 world shoot in 2016

If this match is anything like the last qualifying match in Cape Town earlier this year. Expect it to be tough with LOTS of long shots.
