go buy yourself some .223 brass and make your own ammo.

I used a Redding die set and n tiny pipe cutter to cut the brass a bit longer than the Blackout spec, then you form it with a pre-form die and then with the full sizer.

Then you cut it to length and load it as usual. Stay on the max case lenght

After the first blowout shot you trim if necessary and you are good to go.

Maybe ask Safari & Outdoor to help you out on importing a die set.

I think you might just save a lot in the long run

You just confirmed my worries about recycling at lower velocities. Thats a pity.

My 12" NEA with pistol-length gas system works just fine with sub-sonic loads.

So far my testing in a 16 inch carbine length gas system AR has not yielded success with subsonics.

Main issue is getting the rifle to cycle on the lower charge of S265. (Factory ammo from Remington has no issues but is cost prohibitive for volume shooting)


It is still however early days as i still need to experiment with MP200, S221 and perhaps S321.

Another option will be to factory crimp as this tends to increase pressure, which will be the goal with the reduced powder charge.

Are you shooting the subs with a suppressed rifle?

I tried running it suppressed with the suppressor I purchased from hailstorm with my bolt gun in 300blk.

I also tried running it with a Numenor Black Fyre.


The factory subsonic cycled with no issues, just have not had much luck with our local powders.

What everyone is missing is that reloading the 300 Black is almost cheaper than reloading the 5.56.

30 caliber FMJBT are about R2.50 ea, a small pistol primer and half the amount of propellant required for 5.56 and away you go. The cases are silly-easy to manufacture out of 5.56.

SABS have now conceded that they are unable to test 300 Black as they have found it impossible to create enough over-pressure in the round. So the cases promise a long life.
