The five suspects were involved in a shootout with police on Umhlanga Rocks Drive leaving two of the suspects wounded.

Officers had been chasing the vehicle when it pulled into the garage's forecourt and the suspects surrendered.

Garage owner, Brian Johnson says at no point did staff feel unsafe thanks to the calm and swift way in which police reacted.

"We found the police acted very quickly, very appropriately and very efficiently. They called in further emergency response teams, the fire brigade to ensure that the vehicle they had been shooting at was fire safe.

"We are very aware of the risk at a site like this with robbery and fires. We are prepared for it, we plan for it and our staff are pro-active in prevention," he said.
