I am a medical professional but all real trauma field knowledge is a rare sight.Lack of confidence and experience is a killer. Its not like they really teach u what to do in the field... all is done in a controlled enviroment with specialist and machines that help u.Heat of the moment..I must concede I might hit a blank.Golden hour medicine saves lives to be honest.

If u really look at most emergency room cases...most of them do to ill health and filling prescriptions.

Only reason holding me back is the price...but that is no excuse.

    May I ask your specialty?

There are one or 2 very good ER docs on the forum. Am sure they will chime in soon.

"If u really look at most emergency room cases...most of them do to ill health and filling prescriptions" Only on days that don't end in -y in major urban centers! I wish this was true.

I'm not sure what you mean by "not like they really teach u what to do in the field..." Please elaborate... I'm one of the teachers, a super specialist, and an avid shooter.

In the heat of the moment, you default to your lowest level of training. So make sure your training is at the highest level possible. You won't blank if you have both the right mindset and training.

I am talking about small rural towns where I work.ill prepared casualty departments.what I meant by in the field... meaning the accident/gunshot happens infront of u in the field far from a hospital with no medical supplies.

I have experience where even a friend who is doctor fumbled and whe struggled to help another friend in dire need in the veld.there my GP friend admitted when u sit in a rural town casualty with 5 beds and all the beds are most of the time filled with flu and pts forgetting to renew their scripts u do loose that edge.

For me... I hit a blank and my BLS and ILS made me ill prepaired. my GP friend also hit blank..we fumbled.no tourniquet no wound packing material... ill prepaired.what i think I meant to say...u must train regularly otherwise u lose your knowledge and u always must be prepaired

    does that make better sense.

Dude seriously. The word is YOU. Typing two extra letters won't hurt you. This isn't a text to your mate and SMS speak really undermines your point.

100% agree. After his last post I've totally lost interest.

    Dude, you're speaking in riddles.

I was struggling with the concept of u instead of you as written by a "medical professional". Not doubting the writer is one.......just sayin'. That along with the grammar/spelling but I attributed that to maybe Afrikaans trying to do English. Yeah the teenager SMS speak is annoying.

I don't actually know what you're trying to say here, but if you mean that practice and being prepared is important - then yes! That's a good idea. I have yet to meet a doc who has completed their training in SA who doesn't know what to do with a GSW! It's pretty basic stuff for us - we train docs/surgeons from Japan/England/Germany etc. who don't encounter these things commonly. Best tell your GP mate to do a refresher ATLS course or something similar to retrain. Treating a GSW isn't rocket surgery.
