Re: Ar15 or Lm5?
This thread is a bit dated, and was wondering what the advice would be now a days?
Im wanting to get involved in IPSC 3gun, and having something decent on the farm would be a bonus.
I really like the look of the LM's and from a very young age wanted a gun like my dad had in the army... but there are a couple cheaper AR's out there.
I have very limited knowledge on SLR's and was hoping for some advice.

Re: Ar15 or Lm5?
IMHO (and bear in mind I own two LM's - I love them!)
AR is the way to go.
Althought this thread was waaaaaay before my time, the concerns raised WRT spares availability etc have been addressed, and are not an issue any more.
If you're only gonna get one get one, and if it's just for sport (and HD + SHTF), get an AR.
If you're not the competitive type (nothing wrong with that) and also like the romance (because of your dad), get the LM.
Better yet, get plenty of each.Be ready for anything, and if his head is not at least two meters away from the body, do not 'assume' he is dead and out of the fight. - Ikor

Re: Ar15 or Lm5?
Mmm... spose two is better than 1!
I am planning on doing it competitively, so the AR for now and maybe LM hopefully soon thereafter.
What accessories do you recommend for a newbie?
Thanks for the advice.
