Default Using a sports licensed semi-automatic rifle for patrols

    Good morning,

Firstly i understand that this topic has been discussed in detail somewhere on this forum... I use tapatalk on my pad and after. Number of searches I am unable to find a straight answer for my unique situation.

To start off with my firearm was confiscated and sent for ballistics following defending myself in an attempt at hijacking, so I do not have a SD firearm as it stands right now.

I have an m&p15-22 (semi auto rifle .22) licensed for sport shooting ( section 15) i think... Ok but but but... It is licensed section 21. My license was refused due to it being processed before the competency was finalised (error on SAPS side) as we did submit proof that the competency was applied for.

So i am in the process of fixing that matter. The section 21 is still valid for a few months tho. The competency was subsequently approved, so its a matter now of just reapplying for the license...

Ok so now for the question...

I for well understand that i may use the firearm for self Defense purposes at home, my question is using the firearm when we patrol in the evenings. i belong to community forum which patrol and respond to incidents (zello and cpf) . Not havering a firearm when patrolling is wearing me out and is making it very difficult for me to continue to partake for obvious reasons...

Am I allowed to use my section 16 rifle when i got out to patrol in the evenings or when we respond to an incident?

If yes, then what are the requirements in terms of concealment of the rifle... The nature of the job requires us to leave the vehicle on occasions and leaving it in the car is not an option... How could one conceal it if you have to leave the vehicle?

I am looking forward to your response. Thank you

    I won't take the chance on a Section 21.

For interest sake... Would i be able to use it once the section 15 license is approved?

A S21 firearm may only be used for it's intended purposes. Now the intended purpose on the document will probably say "S16", but I won't take that to mean that the whole of S16 is applicable to the S21.

Is this for the (edited) patrols?

Thing is it would have to be concealed anyway right? How does one conceal a rifle

The term used in the FCA is actually "covered"

I use a guitar bag to transport my long guns. has a carry handle and backpack style straps

I would imagine it is a lawful purpose.
