any 6x45 fans out there?
I got the license for my 6x45 this January (after a long 6-months waiting peroiod) and had my first season in the veld with it this winter. i had started gathering components for it right after i paid for the rifle, a set of 6mm 223 dies from hornady, some virgin PMP brass and 100gr honardy soft points and i was well on my way. after loading the first batch of catridges, i was so chuffed with them i looked at them every night before going to bed.
it is a beautifully built custom rifle on a Brno 527 action on a Vektor bull (or bullish profiled barrel) mated to the most beautiful piece of wood i have laid my eyes on (ok ok, i will stop bragging now.) it accounted for 2 mountain reedbuck, both broadside shots behind the shoulders, one at 170ish m and the other 150 ishm.meat damage was non existent. even the meat around the peripheral of the entrance and exit wounds were pinkish. 2 buck is by no means enough for any conclusions with significance but yeah, it definitely causes less damage than my 30-06 Ackley Improved on these small animals.
does anyone currently hunt with a 6x45 or owned one that want to share a few pointers?
i would love to hear from you

Re: any 6x45 fans out there?
Hi Jav
I am a fan, although I do not currently hunt with one...
My brother and I are building one (Sako action and vector barrel) for my nephews, as their first hunting rifle. The barrel is profiled to be on the lighter side to easy the younger guys carrying it.
Please post pics of the rifle (and possibly the game you hunted with it).
Thanks

Re: any 6x45 fans out there?
hello Sweet
are you a gunsmith? Sako action would that be a short L571? sako actions are very nice. about 10 years ago i saw a 6x45 built on a Tikka action and Vector barrel at Senwes somewhere in the Free state, i really really wanted that gun, but being a poor student at the time, it was a dream beyond my reach, if i recall the price was R4700. doesnt sound much now, but an astronomical amount that time for me.
but now im very chuffed with mine, i will po the pic soon, if i recall right, i didnt take pic of the two MR hunts, but let me check, if i do, will post it too.
when do you expect to complete the youngsters 6x45?

Jav: Any updates on successes with the 6x45?
I've been looking for a decent .243 for my wife but am about to convert my Sako .222 to a 6x45 for her.Addicted to recoil

Re: any 6x45 fans out there?
One day when my 223's barrel needs to be replaced, this is definitely going to be an option. I think the 6X45 will do much better with the 55gr Nosler BT than the 223 does and to boot the 6mm 55gr BT has a better BC :)
This rifle will not be used so much for hunting antelope though.

Re: any 6x45 fans out there?
Arnold: Was thinking of a decent 90gr-100gr Rhino combination at about 2400fps.
Shooting will be very limited for my wife, but 200m is very possible.
I think it will be perfect for her hunting her Impala/Blesbuck sized animals.Addicted to recoil

Re: any 6x45 fans out there?
It should do, just make sure you get a fast twist barrel. Something like a 1 in 9 or even a 1 in 8 for those "heavy" 6mm bullets.

Re: any 6x45 fans out there?
So far the best quote I've got for the conversion is R4500.
Not too bad for a "new" rifle without really going through the licencing process.
It "should" be approved within 30 days.Addicted to recoil

Re: any 6x45 fans out there?
Hi Mylani
Please explain how this is expected to take 30days and is not going through the whole licensing process? I thought that rebarreling in the same cal was a quick thing, but changing the cal was a whole new story.
Thanks
