    Default Gathering information

    All

There was a positive response to the call for contributions for a print ad but concerns about being a once-off and sustainability.

What we need may be something a little different.

I suggest we take our keenness to pay for a print ad, and instead use it to employ economists and statisticians to give us the data of guns and SA. I have some prominent fellows in mind but have no idea what they would cost.

I suggest that if we could prove that gun control is SA is a failure, or at least begin to dominate the evidence (which we are not producing unlike GFSA), we'd be in a far stronger position than we are at present.

Currently GFSA has UCT under its thumb, skews Altbeker's research and so on. We actually don't have anything to hit back with.

Once the research is done, its there - and is more permanent than a once-off ad in print media.

For the record I'd stump up a few grand.

    What do you guys think?

I'm in. I'd happily contribute. What's the plan?

It's a good idea but won't it cost a heck of a lot?

There is the Gun retailers Association (SOUTH AFRICAN ARMS AND AMMUNITION DEALERS ASSOCIATION). Firstly we can ask them for data this would be free me thinks. Secondly the Dealers Association should be able to ask SAPS via the Freedom of Information Act to get this information, me thinks Andrew Souttar may be the contact for them. Otherwise we can ask ourselves under this Act for the information.

This info can then be given to researchers or University's for further processing. Crime stats (reliable or not, its all we have) should be available readily. Statssa have a lot of info free for the search to download as well.

Yup, compiled from his own words. But some good research studies with data will be nice.

So Gents, what is the plan? What research do we do, what are the facts we want to present? What data will we need to do so?
