    Default Dual license

I'd like to dual license a handgun for myself and my dad.

It will be a handgun to be used for sport, section 16 for myself and section 15 for my dad. The firearm will be stored at my father's residence.

I live in a different town, but visit my folks a few times a year. The idea is so that we can go shooting together, but also so that both I and my dad can transport and use the pistol on our own, without the other being present.

Has anybody successfully done something like this? Any tricks or requirements I need to be aware of?

Dual licence holders must live in the same household (premises) according to the act. Search is your friend.

I think for duel license both persons have to be resident at the same address.

So it's not limited to husband&wife only, but I don't think it would work in your case.

...and it seems to be a moer of a mission to get the SAPS to understand what to do.

My dual license with my wife has now been sent back from CFR for the second time....they seem to not understand it is a dual license and keep wanting her license so they can remove it from her name and add it to mine!

Im on the verge of giving up!

yeah, i also looked into this and got caught up on the "same premises" loophole. sigh.
i would then assume there would need to be a mutual safe where only that firearm is allowed to be stored.... as you arent allowed access to his safe/firearms, and vice versa.

Yeah I figured the process might be problematic, since this is not something that gets done regularly.

The idea of "licensing the person" will make things like this a lot easier.

Yup, this is what I had in mind - an addition small pistol safe to which only I and my dad have access, while he keeps his other firearms in a different safe.
