Default The Terrible Ones - Piet Nortje

A complete history of 32 Battalion. I received this two book set as a gift. I am still on the first chapter. Looks to be a really interesting read, there are loads of photos of their operations and the equipment and weapons they used. In one pic I think I see a belt fed G3.

Wc, That would be a H&K M21 which I saw in use in 68ish.

So my buddy has finally launched the books about 32. Will have to ask for a signed copy next time I see him.

I was fortunate to work with them for a while. As I was 19 years old, and for all purposes still a child, the experience was a bit of an eye-opener.

Going by some of the stories in the book I can believe that!

No Jacko. I do not know maj. Nortman. I was in charge of the Madimbu military base (240 troops at age 19) on the edge of the Kruger Park in 1989. Part of the base was made up of recently moved 32 Battalion soldiers. Although I was "technically" their commanding officer, they had a life of their own. I let them be and they reciprocated (or ignored me ... which was basically the same thing).

    Ah, I see.

I thought it might've been in 1987/8 in Angola. Maj. Nortman was in a commander of their armoured wing - and earned a HC medal in the process.
