Firearms shop closed by the SAPS, firearms owners called

The Benoni SAPS would like to inform the community that the firearm section at the Outdoorsman Shop, situated at the corner of Bunyan Street and Howard Avenue, has been closed.

Police spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said that this section was closed by the SAPS due to non-compliance.

“Their licence has expired and all firearms in the store were confiscated and taken to the Benoni SAPS for safekeeping,” said Sekele.

“These firearms included dealer stock, firearms that were sold to the public but have not yet been collected and firearms handed in for safekeeping by owners,” said Sekele.

Sekele invited all members of the public who kept their firearms at the store for safekeeping to come and collect them at the station.

She said failure to do so means their firearms will be forfeited by the state.

Those willing to do so can contact Lieut Andrieka Bell, at the exhibit management, on 011 747 0214.

Documentation proving ownership will be required for firearms to be collected.

This is unconfirmed, I received it as an text alert from a friend who know I shop there. But because of the seriousness I thought I'll share in case a member bought a FA there or have one in dealerstock.

Actualy, the shop was sold to someone, who then did not renew the licence. I think the new owner wasn't really interested in the firearms part of the business. A friend of mine bought a G19 there and has to sort his stuff out now.

So, if you happen to be overseas and unable to come pick up your gun it will be "forfeited by the state"? WTF does that mean anyway?

If they're not interested in the license then sell the stuff before the license expires?

They painted over all the "firearms dealer" signs about 2 years back. Think it's intentional.

Besides not renewing the license, about 100 handguns were given away to creditors who were not licensed gun dealers to settle business debts by the previous owner. I'm told dockets have been opened.

We're fighting an uphill battle in any event and now some A- grade, prime example of a useless a-hole goes and shows all of us the middle finger by doing this? Dammit man...
