Semi Auto on Sec.15
I have a friend who would like to buy semi auto shotgun for clay shooting and general hunting.
1. He is doesn't have dedicated sport shooting status, will he be able to licence it under sec.15?
2. Is it legal to hunt birds with a semi auto?

Re: Semi Auto on Sec.15
But he could get DSS through his new organisation and then apply under sec 16.

Re: Semi Auto on Sec.15
Section 14 deals with semi auto rifle & shotgun for self Defence. If he can justify it he could then use it for clays.
Hunting with a semi-aut -> Rifle is a no-no, but shotgun I'm not sure, maybe others could comment.
Really though, DSS is not difficult to get. If he wants to shoot clays, it's a sport, get DSS.

Re: Semi Auto on Sec.15
You need to consult the relevant hunting regulations iro the province you will be hunting in, as some prohibit hunting with a "FA which discharges more than two shots without being manually reloaded" unless you comply with certain requirements, for example obtaining a special permit. I stand to be corrected but I don't recall any of the provincial ordinances suspending the s29 "semi-auto" provision iro bird hunting, so unless you have a special permit or can restrict the FA to comply with the provision (this could be a potential minefield as it may come down to interpretation and you need to ask yourself whether it is worth the risk), you cannot legally hunt birds with it.

Re: Semi Auto on Sec.15
unethical?
So is it unethical to use you section 13 SD handgun for IDPA?
like I explained in my original post: if he can justify it, he can use it for clays as there is nothing stopping him from doing so. But if his objective is to utilize it for sport then he should just do so as it is not difficult to obtain DSS and it suits his purpose.
