You might consider adding a decent laser to your kit.The trouble with the pencil flares is that they are of rather short duration. The laser in combination with smoke from some greenery thrown on the fire is visible for a considerable distance and is much easier for searchers to pin point your position whilst the flare only gives a general area search.
