Re: Show us your 1911 thread
FINALLY! Got my PT1911 a couple of weeks ago. Brand new gun. I only put 200 rounds down the pipe so far. Only failures I had was FTF's when loading the two Mecgar 8round mags (that I bought extra) to full 8 round capacity. And then only ever on the first round. Download them to 7 and they run just as flawlessly as the 2 Taurus (also Mecgar magazines branded Taurus? ) that I got with the gun.
Got to say. Finish is for shit. Looks nice, not traditional blueing, matt. Didn't wipe the gun down after the first shoot and had surface rust a week later. She now gets wiped down with oil religiously. So maybe a cerakote is in the cards. Cleaned the rust easily enough with fine steel wool, didn't affect the finish.
All in all, happy with my first 1911.

It looks parkerized. I would suggest giving the gun a very wet oiling and maybe even a little heat to open up the pores and allow the oil to be absorbed.

Re: Show us your 1911 thread
Thanks. Ja, after the first removal I oiled it up properly. Not sure if it's actually parkerized though. The interwebs all says blued. So maybe just a shitty blueing? To be fair I have also had surface rust on my old Speed Six. So it happens. Keep them oiled. My P07 slide has never seen oil. Not sure why companies still bother with blueing. Its beautiful if done right, but I would rather have a good rust resistant finish on a shooting gun.

Forgot about this thread altogether... Here's the current incarnation of my Colt Combat Elite with Ithaca slide after a trip to the range...

Not quite an entire 1911 at the moment. Busy with a 1911 build. I will put together a thread when the entire gun is completed, a ground up build.

This .45 Grand Master makes quite a statement.

Re: Show us your 1911 thread
Hey guys. 1911's are a new thing for me so I would appreciate some help if possible. I bought a firearm from a client of mine. Its is a Ithaca. Well the slide is a Ithaca, colt barrel and it looks like a Hammerli Hengen frame. How do I establish if it's a slapped together project gun or was it actually factory built like that.
