Where to go fishing (Pretoria area)
So, I am getting ready for a new adventure. To try my hand @ fishing with my son
I,m was never into fishing, nor even did I eat fish before a week ago ( hake ), on the other hand my son loves eating fish, and he has been for a long time longing to go fishing
We would have gone the week after hunting, but the weather did not play along, so I recon if the weather change we will go
So, the son got what he wanted in terms of fishing gear, ( ...s%$#t..... these things are expensive - anyway, seems like good / quality gear Rod , real etc ) )
Anyway, we are looking for a place in or around Pretoria to take him and his cousin ( his cousin knows how to fish, and will show him the ropes ). I recon I will sit with a dop and tjop while they fish
I have heard from some guys that they do not normally eat the fish that they catch in the dams / rivers (only fish caught in the sea are apparently taken home), otherwise it is thrown back into the dam / river
Is this what they call “catch and release? “
Anyway, the idea is to let him ( my son ) catch a fish and at least eat some ( after cooking / frying / braaiing ), but the guys I spoke to said things from
- Muddy taste
- Dirty water
- Etc
Anyway, can anyone perhaps recommend a place where we can go and try this fishing thing?
Preferable in and around Pretoria, (Radius +- 100 km)
O yes, and of course, where the fish is edible
Appreciate in advance
Regards
Neef

Neef , the clean dams like Rust De Winter...super clean water...the bass taste lekker, specially if you put it in a smoker!! Rietfontein, Roodeplaat are a bit iffie, mainly "pap gooing" there

Neef, this won't fall into the 100km radius.. but take the N1. When you reach Stellenbosch give me a call. Yellowtail is up big time at Dassen Eiland
