Ammo - How long can you keep carry ammo
Hi all,
How long should one carry SD ammo? (up in JHB) - how long would be too long?
Secondly, I am trying to source some carry ammo in .40S&W. Any recommendations on what to get? I called a local gunshop and they have Magtec - but I havent used those for about 8 years or so......and that was just for range-use.
Any recommendations would be appreciated. I carry a CZ100 .40S&W

I try change out my carry ammo every six months. With the current shortages I have been going a year between changes.
Try Southern Arms for carry ammo they may have some .40
Whatever you buy run at least a couple of mags through your gun to make sure they work in it.
Any of the 180gr Premium loads would be a good choice (eg Gold Dot Golden Sabre )

Thanks for the advice Big T.
I just gave 'em a call
They have
speer gold dots 165 gr - R199 /20
remington golden sabre 180gr R450 / 25
magtech gaurdian gold 155gr R120 / 20
pmp 180gr jhp R345 /50
Sorry, I dont know much about the subject matter - which round is recommended for everyday carry use? I will buy extra and shoot a couple mags through to test realibility.

While I would bormally prefer the 180gr stuff at that price buy as much of the 165gr Gold Dot as you can afford. Then buy two more boxes. You probably won't see it at that price in a hurry again so stock up as much as possible.
Think of it as a from AlphA to AlphA Christmas present.

I think I'm gonna take a drive there right now (but its about 40 kms away from me!)
I'll get some Gold Dots - If I buy 3 boxes......I hope I dont have issues in my CZ100. It chews up NGA factory loads without any failures (I shoot approx 300 a sitting when I go to the range)......but for carry Ammo I currently have Winchesters .....those feed fine as well......
EDIT - thanks for the link BiGT - will be sure to have a good read.

Dude it's a great shop and worth the drive. They have a range there as well so why not test a box or so while you are there and then you can be sure that it works. Then you dont have to fear while you burn up the credit card on ammo.

Cool - I didnt know they have a range - If I am going to spend some time on the range, I might as well pop in tomorrow when I will have more time. Do you know if they are open on Saturdays?
