Default Winchester wins contract for up to 200 million rounds of .40 S&W

For DHS...actually for CBP...note that 'up to' does not mean they will deliver the entire 200 million. I find it very interesting also that they have spec'ed a load that no one who is considered an authority in the service pistol ammo field recommends. Very similar to the old days when they used the 110+P+ .38 loads in revolvers. They failed in the field and IMO this load will too...but time will tell. The old load was 155gr and if this press release is accurate this one will be lighter.

WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Winchester Ammunition was recently awarded a contract by the Immigration, Customs and Enforcement (ICE) division of the Department of Homeland Security to supply a maximum of 200 million, 40 cal. rounds over the next five years.

The load selected for this contract is a 135-grain, hollow point designed for the office of Field Operations of Customs and Border Protection. It will fall under the Winchester Ranger line.

Must be a very special zombie one shot stop 135gr bullet. ;D
Suppose orders like this will further delay Winchester shipments to international destinations. :P

Maybe but probably not by much after the initial orders are done. This is a five year contract and, believe it or not, is not all that much ammo in the overall scheme of production, so while dealers and distributors may use it as an excuse, it is not likely to create much of a shortage of other .40 ammo.

135gr .40S&W? Seems Winchester is defying logic on this one, why a 135gr bullet? I suppose it will be a Nosler JHP Ikor?
