Anyone fished the vaal river recently

Looking to do a bit of flyfishing on monday with my son.

I have not been on the vaal for a while, so if anyone has been down, please let me know what the water quality is like.

Apparently very good at the moment. I'm hitting the Vaal on Friday so will be able to give you an updated and accurate personal report

Although muddies are considered by some a PITA, I like catching them on the shallow beds. In deeper water is rather be catching yellows. Muddies are plenty this time of year.

Absolutely fantastic at the moment. Shy of 50 fish were caught last weekend between two anglers at "our" spot last Sunday. Hit it hard before the big rains come. Yellow season is definitely here and has started with a bang.

Sjoe, ja, you must be fishing a 9-weight at least ... but if you do Czech nymphing, you don't have to cast that far.

I fish with a 5wt rod and 4wt reel. Landed some big barbel and carp on it while targeting yellows. 9wt is overkill IMO.
