    Default Gen 4

The official European launch of the Gen 4 Glocks should be around March. The first Gen 4s should hit SA about May. Bernhard Agencies will keep us informed as info becomes available.

Gunsite members will be the first to receive any news on Gen 4 in SA and a report will be forthcoming as soon as they land.

They put the "gen4" right on the gun! Seems like they are actually doing some kind of market research. I estimate their website should reflect the new models in about 2 years :D

Just kidding. If I order new mags should I specify gen3 or should the gen4's work in a gen3 gun?

Shooter any G17 mags will work in your gun. You don't need to specify a gen.

Older mags will work in the Gen 4 if the mag release stays on the left hand side of the gun. If you want to swap it around and put it on the right hand side of the gun you will need the newer mags with the cut out on the front.

The Gen 4 has a new recoil spring system and does not work on Gen 3.

Hence the Gen4 slide is marked Gen 4 on the slide. Glock developed a dual recoil system that helps recoil but the spring does not have a good life span.

The new spring is probably not stiffer than the previous, so what is the difference? If it was stiffer the slide would have to be made lighter to keep within specs?

They put it in, so there must be some advantage.

Imo Glock still lacks the understanding of what a lot of G users want - a straight backstrap!!!

That is why Robar and others are making a lot of money on grip enhancements and after market frames.

As I understand it the new recoil spring system was developed to correct the problems with the 22's and metal bodied tac lights. It makes sense, from a production point of view, to standardise across models.

As they are very new on the market, spring durability is yet to be tested.

I replace mine every 2k anyway.
