I get some clotted powder specs in the face from bad ammo in pistols.

The guy I mentioned above had small perforations in his face just under his eye -not sure if this was just from powder particles or also some shrapnel (tiny) from the case. Not enough for blood to run as such but it stung him.

Hence EyePro.... I've had the odd ruptured case with all kinds of locally available .22LR ammo, in a number of firearms (2 bolt guns and a blowback pistol). At the volumes .22LR gets made at I expect a larger number of failures

don't mean the range shooting set up, mean like on farm when he walks around shooting prickly pears and stumps and tin cans, like free time being a kid.
bit like going to stalk a kudu with muffs and goggles.

Wiley X sunglasses? Or any sunglasses that are rated to protect the eyes? I know I don't like going out into bright sun without sunglasses at all - combine light and ballistic protection, sounds like a good plan to me.

Also, I feel like a bit of a noddy, but when I stalk a kudu, it's with muffs and eye pro! Feel a bit girly since nobody else does, but once everybodies had their laugh it's all good I've had two blowouts in my face, one with eyepro and one without, and I can assure you, you really would prefer 'with'. Both with .22 though. As I said, good ballistically rated sunglasses (expensive, but hey) and you're good to go. The eyepro is the easiest part actually.

A lot more fun than being blind

No reason to shoot without proper PPE unless someone is trying to kill you.

    Build good habits from young.

    Read this somewhere
