A police captain based at the Nelspruit police station is facing charges of corruption after two house robbery suspects claimed he lent them firearms.
Captain Thomas Mnisi, 55, was arrested last week after Themba Lekhuleni and Thabo Sebola were found with a 9mm pistol and ammunition.
Acting police provincial commissioner in Mpumalanga Major-General Meshack Nogwanya said: "It transpired that the firearm confiscated was sourced from Mnisi.
"The two further allege Mnisi had previously provided them with firearms, which they used mainly to commit house robberies."
Mnisi's arrest has shocked his colleagues, who know him as a dedicated and hard-working officer.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-General Solomon Makgale said Mnisi resigned shortly after his arrest. He is currently out on bail and will appear in court again on March 3.Be ready for anything, and if his head is not at least two meters away from the body, do not 'assume' he is dead and out of the fight. - Ikor

Pity that cops in these types of circumstances can't be charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery or murder. Or as an accomplice.
Its not like these dudes needed the gun for sport or because it fit into their theme of firearms with criminal provenance.Cattle die, kindred die, every man is mortal:
But I know one thing that never dies,
the glory of the great dead.

Re: Guns for hire - from cops
I wonder if they ever consider how long this practice can be kept "secret" and what would be the price to pay when it comes out?

Re: Guns for hire - from cops
Well, I seem to remember that in some previous exposed cases this "business" went for quite some time. Surely one should start wondering how long one could take risks?
