How many rounds does one normally go through in a competition ?
I competed in all the pistol events with my 9mm for quite a while, perfect for 9 pin, adequate for the rest - if you do your part.

That depends on your shooting ability - below is an estimate for an average shooter:

For a club shoot: allow for about 36 rounds for 9-Pin (12 per string, 3 strings)
StockGun - 30 (10 per string), same for Pin Gun
    Stock & Pin Revolver - 36 (12 per string)

Bring more than you think you'll need!

Thanks, I normally take at least double the amount needed for IPSC, just in case I have a bad day :) Will do the same for Pin Shooting.

Sorry, I forgot - if you're going to shoot Stock & Pin Gun with a 9mmP, use a heavy bullet and bring more ammo. It can be done, but unless you hit them perfectly (preferably with fresh pins), you're may have to hit the pins multiple times.

Yes. 9mmP is just perfect for 9-pin, which is a very popular item. So you can participate and learn the ropes.

I have shot Stock Gun and Pin Gun with a 9mmP (G19) loaded with 147 gn lead bullets. I needed about 7 rounds on average to clear the 5 pins off the table. As Katlagter said, shot placement is critical and fresh pins help a lot.

With your 9mm and the new S&W, you will be very well equipped.

The S&W is probably gonna take a while :( Patience is a virtue.

Where is the best shot placement on the pin ? I'd guess 1/3rd from botton ?

    Right in the triangle logo.
