Yes well, SADPA used to have 3 Gun matches where bolt actions were the order of the day. Was fun shooting a COF with a LE303 or giving the guys a chance to shoot their long bolt guns in a timed event. It got hi-jacked by DMG but just maybe we might see it again. I am not sure if there is a large enough following for it though. Also the ranges were seldom more than 50m.

There are various organisations running rifle shoots.

The various hunter's associations have their various shoots. Distances vary from very close to about 400m. Distances are mostly known and shooting positions mostly standardized.

"Veldskiet" shoots are organised by SA Hunting Rifle Shooting Association (www.sahuntingrifle.co.za). These usually consist of 6 ranges spread out in the veld (not an official range). Normally, on 4 ranges you shoot at life-size photos of game animals (with scoring areas) and 2 ranges consist of 5 ghongs each. This can change due to terrain or other constraints. Distances are unknown (you have to estimate them) and can go out to +/-350m. The shooting positions are interesting, as you mostly have to make do with what is available to you. While the standardised positions can help on some ranges, often you have to improvise. This is part of the challenge. Time is limited, ranging between 60 and 120 seconds for 5 shots. Range setup is always different for every shoot. Great fun and always challenging.

Then there are the more "tactical" shoots and the long range shoots.

You have many options to choose from.
