Default Weight of Female Blue Wildebeest

    Hi Guys

I have an opportunity to hunt a blue wildebeest cow this year. What carcass weight can I expect?
That is head, feet and guts removed. The farm that I plan on hunting it has a high carrying capacity,
with game in good condition and is in the KZN midlands.

Using the stealth adventure calculator I get weights between 80 to 90kgs

That is about accurate for dressed weight, if you get larger than that you are either lucky or you shot a bull.

mine weighed in at 126Kg last year if I recall right, not sure when the butcher weighed it though.

that was head and feet off, cleaned, but with skin on.

That is correct for female. I found there will be difference between areas and seasons. Bulls with me are minimum 110 up to 130kg even. Adult nice bulls this is.

females my side.. average 80 and a bit more.

Bringing this one one up from the grave...

I also have an opportunity to take a Blue Wildebeest Cow this weekend.
I tried google to find out what I should look out for between cow's and bulls, but left a bit confused.

So this is a calling to those more experienced than myself...

How do I identify a cow from a bull?
I will have a field guide with me, but will rather trust my own judgement(at this point 0)

    Dankie ooms!

Thicker, heavier and wider horns, especially on the boss of the horns.

If they are standing broadside on and close enough, look for a penis sheath.

Yip, and slaughtered means the animal is dead. I would like to do the ID before I pull the trigger...
