Re: BS you've heard at the shooting range.
I think this is the amateur take-away of the real phenomenon called 'fleet yaw', where due to the differences between (and this is the part where I dig deep in my very fragile memory, so corrections are always welcome) the centre of rotation caused by the barrel, the actual centre of mass of the bullet, and all the hot gas rushing past the bullet until the airflow has stabilised, often causes pretty massive oscillating yaw angles (the nose can describe decreasing rosette patterns) until everything settles down. The flighpath however, is still ballistically sensible, ie. it doesn't move up and down, only the yaw angle changes over time, decreasing until it settles. So what people might have seen at the range is apparent keyholing of certain rounds at shorter ranges, leading them to believe BS like 'bullets moving up and down'. HOB and the associated angle between the bore and the scope or sight centreline is another winner, making people think that bullets 'climb' after being fired, as if it's some kind of aerodynamic thing.
You can see fleet yaw here, at around the 25 second mark, and just after the 1:00 minute mark:

Re: BS you've heard at the shooting range.
On the video you can clearly see the bullet is doing something weird. I have never seen anything than a round hole in a target with any 3 gun shoots that I participate in from very close (about 1,5 m) to far targets with either pistol or rifle.
Is it possible that its is that specific AK or the design of the muzzle break that creates that yaw effect?

Re: BS you've heard at the shooting range.
check that barrel snaking - awesome vid.
you see that bullet at like 26/28 seconds ??? Ha ha, looks like hotted a old 60ties v8 with standard suspension doing a foot flat pull away.
Is it possible for a bullet that way off to ever right itself ??? When we were trying to slow the 30 Cal down to below 1100 fps using 220 gr bullets we found this happening. We were getting key hole targets 25 out to 100 m, A 4 grouping. Is this par for the course with these kinda weapons or is that barrel worm past worn ?.
