    Default .357 magnum PIN load

I am looking for a PINload for 357 Magnum using frontier 158 grn RN. Ideally using MS 200.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Goblin, what is your reason for using MS200? I wouldn't use MS 200 in my .357 if you paid me and promised me a new rollie. The pressure spike is generally considered to be too fast and too high. Also, MP 200 gives a better case fill which should result in better accuracy. Some people use S221((?) or S265 for long barreled rollies.

And somewhere I read that heavier bullets (200gr+) give better results.

If pin shooters often use MS200, please ignore my post.

A 180 grain lead bullet (not too hard) at just on 220 Fac does the trick.

I still have some old load data from my pin days, used S265 and .38 Spl cases exclusively

Will see if I can find it in the morrow

I'm not a revolver specialist, so take this with caution and use at your own risk.

Most pin shooters use 180 to 200 gr bullets. I started with 158 gr, but battled to get the pins off the table and found the recoil heavy. I would be hesitant to use MS200.

    My 158gr CMJ load was 7,7gr MP200 for a velocity of 1140 ft/sec, factor 180 (Ruger SS, 4" barrel)

My current load is 180gr CMJ with 7,0gr MP200 for vel. of 1000 ft/sec, factor 180.

Some pin shooters use .38 Special cases with extra long / extra heavy bullets, but I don't have the specs.

Yes, the common 357 Mag pin loads are 180 gn to 200 gn. There are those who insist on using the 230 gn wad-cutter ("pin grabber") bullets, made by Josyd.

A 158 gn bullet could move the pins off the table, but will have to be pushed at max pressure to do so. It will also very likely tend to exit the pins, transferring lots of inertia on the backstop, in stead of inside the pin. A lead SWC of 158 gn works better, as it tends to deform more than a CMJ, and "grab" onto the wood fibers inside the pin.

MS200 is definitely unsuitable. Do not use anything faster than MP200. For heavy bullets, S265 is popular, but I find it leaves too much unburned powder if not pushed to max pressure (which is not needed).

For the longer (heavier) cast bullets, that do not have a crimp groove far enough forward, to fit in the cylinder when crimped in a 357 case, you could use a 38 Spl case. Just ensure the case head is the same thickness as a 357. Some older cases had weak heads. With long (heavy) bullets, you want to maximize the case capacity by seating the bullets out as far as possible. Cylinder lengths vary between different revolvers, so tailor your loads to your revolver's measurements.
