    Default East London

    Good day guys,

For the 1st time in about 6 years I'm going to be spending some time in East London (Eastern Cape). I have no idea how thing have changed, if they have at all. I'm hoping some locals or some guys with currant local knowlage can advise me, are there no go beaches? We will be staying near "Cove Rock", and will try stick to main beaches obviously not do the long walks at sunset things but being out of Govt. school holidays I'm expecting some places to be quieter than normal.
I will still EDC but at times it'll be in a bag and perhaps not as handy as normal as in when swimming with the kids.
my F/A is not a plastic so can't be jiffied and go in the sea.

Ps. There will be times the wife and kid want to go to the beach without me as well.

Stay away from Eastern Beach, bats cave. Be careful near Gulu beach.

I agree with narc those are the main hotshots.

Also most beaches at night are a no go even the private beaches at the resorts.

Town Center, Wesbank and Greenfields are no go's at night.

We have had a couple of shopping center robberies but it seems to have calmed down.

Try Kidd's Beach. About 15min drive from Cove Rock, in the Port Alfred direction. Nice and out of the way. And probably safer than the places closer to town.

Jeepers, how messed is this country ? EL beaches sound like a freaking war zone. What's PE like ? Sick that you have to fear for your life if you make a wrong choice. I know all countries have no-go zones in cities, but it just seems extreme here.

Our beachfront is not a tourist area like Cape Town for example. It is bordered by some of the rougher areas.
