Default Rifle Scope for 9.3X62 and 30-06

    Hi,
Looking for some advice. Finally got confirmation cards printed. DFO will collect the cards next week

I bought on special a Redfield Revenge 6X18X44 for the 30-06.

Now there is an existing scope on the 30-06 that for now would like to mount on the 9.3X62. It is a Tasco 4X44. It stood up to the 30-06 recoil, will it last on the 9.3X62 or should I wait until I can afford something decent? Going hunting in two weeks time and would really like to take the 9.3 as well should something bigger cross my path.

Right now minister of finance will not approve spending R 8000 on an additional scope.

    Mad Max

For the 9.3 get a good quality 3-9x40 with good field of view and sufficient eye relief.
That is all you will need.

    I have a lynx lx2 3-9 x 40 with holdover reticule. 4 inch eye relief.
Have never had to rezero the scope.

R8K will buy you something very decent.

I would Advise in Favour of getting Minimum Magnification to be a Maximum of 2x for closer shots..
    I prefer my Nikon Monarch 2-8 x 32 for both my 9.3 x 62 as well as my 30-06.
If I would buy again, I would get the Nikon 2.5 - 10..

You are net going to take 100's of shots, so take the 4x44 and enjoy.

I opted for low magnification on my 9.3 - this is a vortex PST 1-4x22 (30mm tube)

The illuminated recticle really works well in low light...

If it is a Japanese Tasco, keep it for the time being.

I started with a similar one on my 9.3, upgraded to a variable Tasco and finally have a 4X32 Schmidt & bender that has been serving me for the last 15 years.

Great calibre, with its moderate velocity, you can shoot small game without that much meat damage and later use it for the big stuff.

    I have a leupold VX 2 3-9x40
The scope is well priced and works very well on the 9.3. Clear crisp image and the scope is not heavy at all.

I started of with a 3-9 and now use a 4.5-14 leupold vx3. This together with loading 230gr bullets have transformed it to a 200m rifle. So if you intend shooting the 286gr bullets a 3-9 will be perfect. Others will say 14 is overkill for 200m. For me the 9 was just not comfortable at 200m.

Your choice is a really good one, I had the same scope on my 9.3 until I changed it for the lower magnification - my rifle is used mostly in an an area we call the East Kootneys in British Columbia.

My hunting partner (son) and I love hunting elk in the area, the problem is it's got loads of grizzly bears walking around there, they usually don't pose a problem, but have been known to attack and kill hunters, and they move as quick as any Cape buffalo.

So having a big old grizzly coming at you from 40 or 50 yards, 4 - 5 seconds is all you got to kill it - then he will start chewing on you.

Express sights (Iron) are best, but my eyes are going - so I need a bit of magnification and I also need to shoot both eyes open.
