Think the smokeless might have a higher pressure in a shorter time period and I know that they form cracks due to them being much less ductile than the drawn cases.

With turned cases; you are duplicating the 45-70 cartridge; which is proven to be the better cartridge (BP cartridges don't like severe shoulders.). The rifling twist of the two guns differ with but 1 inch (22 v 23) with a very slight difference in bullet diameter. I load my MH with turned cases and use 45-70 charges (70 grs Wano 2F) and 405 gr bullet (also a 350gr bullet) which I re size in a .45 acp bullet sizing die (Lee) to .452. Excellent results over short to medium ranges (up to 200m).

For any favor; don't use smokeless powder in the MH. You will bend the gun.

With turned cases, you need to slightly change the profile of the top of the breech block; this so the breech block does not rub against the primer; which should be flush with the case. Original primers were slightly recessed.

I recently formed cases from 24gauge cbc brass with just MH Lee sizing die. Cumbersome but possible.
trimmed cases to 59 mm. OAL of the round 79mm. 75 grains of blackpowder behind a 460 grain cast bullet. Work a whole lot better than the turned cases. Also can use large rifle primers where in the turned cases I had to use large pistol primers.

I use 38 gr S355 and a 445gr bullet in turned brass, works well with typical gentle push recoil.

3p-Yes but i can not lay my hands on the data. I will check and report back. My friend who made the bullet mould, use this load effectively hitting an standard property advertisement board at 300m.

That is looking for trouble. Martini Henry proofed for black powder not modern propelllants. You might get away for a while- hope you are insured and on a proper medical aid

The load produce an avg. speed of 1075ft/sec with little variations in speed. Although the turned brass has a much smaller volume than the originals you still need some filler to properly burn the powder.
