    Smile 7mm and ammo availability

    Hi guys.
I'm a newbie and would appreciate some comments w.r.t. a choice of caliber.

    My situation:
Looking for general purpose rifle for :
    - bushveld hunting mainly,
    - small / medium game - impala mainly, perhaps kudu or even wildebees,
    - for meat and biltong, mainly.
I'd prefer a smaller caliber than 30-06 mainly because of recoil.
Having done some reading, so far my choice would be a 7x57.
I am concerned about ammo availability in this caliber, but I might be wrong on this - any experience out there?
If ammo is a problem, what alternative should I look for - perhaps a .270?

    Thanks very much

7X57 is a wonderfull choice for what you intend to do.
Ammo is made locally by PMP so availability should not be a problem.

270 is a little fast for the bushveld.
    Go with the 7x57 or a 308.

    Sparky,

I bought myself a 7x57 and there is no way that I wil change my rifle. Got my licence 2 years ago. There is no problem finding ammo for the 7x57. All the gun shops I know have ammo for the 7x57 available.

    Regards
    Ig

270 will certainly work and give you options if you hunt outside the bushveld but the 7x57 is perfect for what you want. 308 is also very good but hard to beat the 7x57.

You can bet your 7x57 that the forum never sleeps - at night though watch out - specially in the "Dungeon" some dark and hinious elements strolling around there....creepy....

7X57 would be great in the Bushveld. Moderate velocity and excellent sectional density with the heavier bullets in the caliber.
