Re: Any amateur brewers on GS?
I started brewing my own beer this year but I work in my father in laws Mead brewery here in Denmark if you'd like to know more about that?
So far I've I've brewed a Pale Ale in a starter kit called Mr Beer got it as a christmas gift and it came out pretty dam good I might add since then I've done a October fest and after that I made up my own concoction at home with the help of the old man he knows his way around brewing in general. He is taking me Monday to one of his mates who owns a beer brewery here in DK and Im gonna get a bit of a master class from the old ballies to get the next batch started up. looking forward to it!

Re: Any amateur brewers on GS?
Any updates to this? I've just done my first all grain blonde with a friend (his recipe and his equipment). Very interesting and alot easier than I thought, provided you have the right equipment.

Re: Any amateur brewers on GS?
I just finished a IPA last week. All bottled up and ready to go.
I think my next batch will be a Lager again.

Re: Any amateur brewers on GS?
At the moment it is still kit. I don't mind fermentation periods. I usually brew 2 or 3 types in succession, so there is always something to drink.

Vincent doesnt sell out of Gilroys anymore. But he does mail order anywhere in South Africa. He has very good kit and very good advice.

In Emmerentia there is a small out of the way place with excellent kits as well as lots of ingredients for grain brewing. National food products: http://www.thehomebrewshop.co.za/

I have been brewing with a friend using a custom-made brewing system, and then we also use a Grainfather. I don't use kits, since I enjoy going the whole 9 yards.
Brewcraft in Jetpark is a really great place to go to. They're very knowledgeable and they have awesome specials too every now and then.

Re: Any amateur brewers on GS?
I'm busy fermenting a Munich style lager. Split the wort in 2 and have used 2 different yeasts to see which I prefer. Fermenting in 2 x 4.5L glass carboys. Nice size for experimenting.
I'm using the brew in the bag, all grain method. This quite a handy method as you don't need all the equipment as required for the traditional all grain brewing. So far my results have been quite satisfying
