    Default Firearm ID Thread

Every now and then I see pics on Twatter or FB of recovered pistols/rifles, etc. Being a newby, I like to know what I'm looking at. Maybe this thread can be used to post such arbitrary pictures for identification ?

For starters, this pistol was recovered from the scum that robbed SAPS in Jeppe last night of pistols and an R5. What is it ?

Interesting to see the plasticuff or whatever it is with a date stamp on it. Jamming equipment antennae on the left.

Arresting a guy last year I had a plasticuff break on me. That's what happens when they get old and spend too much time in a car. Gets hot and hardens, then it snaps. That might be why it has a date on it.

Yup, it's what SAPS is using now.

Ah, I didn't read carefully enough. I thought it was today's date on the plasticuff, but it is exactly a year ago in 2014.

So those are just regular radio antenna segments ? (Totally unrelated but : Jeepers did we have some kak (portable) radios when I was doing national service !!)

Not sure, difficult without seeing the full units, but they look a bit long for cell or remote jamming frequencies

The ones recovered in Gauteng the last few times have often been up to 40cm long. The antennae aren't always sized correctly.

That is jammer anntenas for sure. One of the bigger units that would jam multiple signals. Jammer unit are commonly refered to hijacker as TV's. You get small jammers that are as big as an external hard drive and bigger "TV's" that are about the size of a laptop. They only jam signals in about a 10m raduis. Some new tracker units have jammer mitigation which will activate a "limb mode" limiting a trucks revs to idle as soon as a jammer is activated.
