Best way to Insulate a Air matress
Hi Guys
Going camping this weekend and was wondering of anyone had any great ideas on how best to insulate a Air matress?
Its one of those Intex double blow up mattresses.
The temp could drop to as low as 2 -5c and they are not the best for cold weather camping, but I am not willing to spend the money on a closed cell mattress or a self inflatable right now.
Thanks

Thick blanket or extra sleeping bag zipped open between you and the mattress makes a huge difference.

If you have power, a electric blanket works wonders! Else trade your blow up for a stretcher etc.

Also found that placing a thick blanket or even sleeping bag beneath the mattress also tends to help.

Re: Best way to Insulate a Air matress
Had the experience in the Cederberg recently.... and it wasn't even close to the temps you're talking about: that Intex gets cold in the early morning! Next time there will definitely be an extra blanket between the mattress and the bodies on top...

I place a space blanket between the mattress and the tent floor as well. And then a blanket between yourself and the mattress.

I find that a good single malt and the company of someone willing and warm is the best method...

Springer Wins! Might just double up though. One is none and 2 is more fun!

Re: Best way to Insulate a Air matress
Hmmm.... must confess that I cannot see a space blanket doing much good there (it's not really a great conduction barrier, which is the heat transfer mechanism between the mattress and the ground)
All good for the night before, but on the morning after a cold mattress puts a significant damper on both "willing" and "warm"....

And I must confess that I didn't think much of heat conduction, but it prevents the mattress from making odd noises against my tent's PVC floor
