Now that I've googled them I remembered them from my childhood. My father smoked pipe those years. I think they will do the job, going to pick up some tomorrow.

    On the subject.

Sent the Bul in to Rescomp for a full detail strip and clean.

The mags slide out of the beastie like glass now... makes one wonder how much accumulated time I have wasted in comps with sticky mag drops

One of the reasons I love 1911's is that you can strip the entire gun using its own parts and unless you are really doff it does not have any "ping gones"

I always clean all firearms on same day I come off the range, or worst case the very next day.

Also consider that if u are shooting with your carry gun and dont clean it, you hav GSR and smell of burnt powder on your handgun. Could get a little uncomfortable if your gun isn't clean and you at a shooting scene. Yes u can prove u were at the range 2 days ago. But just clean it then this will never be an issue. Plus u know your clean gun is 100% good to go.

All of this is a non issue imo.

Modern guns can go very far with very little cleaning or no cleaning at all.

A clean gun is gtg just as much or with just as much risk that something can go wrong at any time as with a gun that comes off the range after a good day or a couple of days of shooting. I do not want a gun that will not be gtg for several hundreds of rounds without getting a good clean.

This. I prefer to not carry a clean gun. At least I know it went bang prior.

When I clean my SD pistol I do it at the range so that I can function test it with ammunition afterwards. Probably not necessary but it gives me some peace of mind.
