    Default Trigger stick

Last year, before the hunting season, I bought a trigger stick (three-legged). It's the one where you pull a lever and all three legs are supposed to drop free.

I did not use it as I did not have time to practice, but I've now had two or three range sessions with it. One of the legs is very difficult to move. The whole thing is unstable on concrete at the range. So much so that I'm doing better freehand.

It looks as this may not have been my greatest purchase ever (and they are really expensive at >R1000).

I use a 2 legged version. It's ideal if the guide carries it, but you have to practise with them a few times before you head into the field. I practise with guides before using their bamboo sticks as well, to make sure they place the sticks at the right height for me.
The legs dropping on the ground is also pretty noisy, so you have to show the guide to put it down on the ground first, then raise the rest. In the heat of the moment they forget though and you end up with a 'clank' as they hit the ground.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with mine, but if it had a stiff leg I wouldn't take it to the field. Was the leg always an issue?

Maybe the one pipe got a bump and now is sticking. Try to find that and push it out.

Personally I don't like any kind of shooting stick.
Mostly because you have to carry it. And when standing you are very visible.
And if you use a target stance for shooting rifle. Where you support your one arm into your side.
And know how to correctly use a sling. Your platform is very stable.

Rather learn to correctly use a sling. It creates a very stable platform when you know how to correctly lock your arm with the sling.

The primos one's are great. The RAM ones I have had a few returned due to the exact problem your describing. They seem to have fixed it though.

Thanks for this post, I was thinking of getting one, but based on above I will have to re-think
I was placed under the impression that the news ones with the trigger was in fact silent

Will rather then save the money for another impala

Used a three legged Primos one this past weekend. Three kills. No issues. Guess it's what you make of it.

I am looking for one for my son, his only 5 and not strong enough to hold the gun (GSG 522)

But if they are shaky maybe I must look at another option.

They are not shaky. Some of the ram trigger sticks just have sticky legs.

I have a ram trigger stick, don't always use it but haven't had any problems when using it.
