I visited one recently to get a taser and some pepper spray for my wife.
The conversation also steered in that direction but I chose to not get into an argument.

The thing with this replica/airsoft saga, is, besides getting yourself killed, which could go either way if you had a proper firearm, with the less lethal choice, you die, the criminal gets to tell their side of the story to the court, if you are dead, there is only one side, which can be manufactured or tailored to make it seem as though you were the initiator of the violence.
Even pointing a co2 is still a crime. Defence becomes justifiable.
If you successfully defend yourself, there will be 2 sides for the court to consider, or, if you are fortunate, only 1.

I reckon a powder burner wins over the less lethal options. People being people, some will find the latter more appealing.
