As mentioned before, we hear you guys.
We are in the process of sorting out a 1 day format close/in Cape Town, and will take it to Joburg once it's working here.
We're going to be looking at:

    • 1 day event
    • 6-10 stages
    • 3-5 shooting lanes (2 stages per lane)
    • 50-60 target opportunities in total
    • max 2 shots per target (2pts 1st round hit, 1pt 2nd round hit)
      • might drop to 1 round per target in 2017.

    • 50-120 rounds required - skill dependant
    • 200 - 750m ranges
    • 1.5 - 3 MOA target sizes
    • 4-6 person squad format. (ie. think Long Range meets 3 Gun).
    • Maximum par times per stage (90-120 seconds max.)

We're still going to run the 'National' events within the current 2 day rules, as this is the only way that it's recognised by the PRS in the USA.
Not a lot we can do about that.

    Fair comment Arnold!
Perhaps the guy spending that kind of money should be motivated!!
But you make a good point...

Creating a series of 1 day events as a feeder for a two day national has a lot of merit.

I agree with Arnold, talk to people actively partaking in some of the current sports, and at least initially just try to get as many people shooting as possible.

As people participate and get better, or at least learn what they are capable of at extende ranges (250m - 1km is extended ranges for most normal shooters starting out), then interest in a multi-day event will increase.

I personally would not enter such a multi-day event without quite a few other shorter shoots under my belt.

The more different styles of long range shooting sports in SA the better!

I shot the Zeiss gong challenge a while ago. It was R2000 per 4 man team. The course consisted of 6x5gong ranges. 60 teams entered.

This sort of a series sounds like a lot of fun and with the recent growth and interest in long range shooting I'm sure it will start to pick up.
I look forward to an event of this kind becoming available in Jhb!
