I Mainly use the gun for plinking. That little Hawke has holdovers out to 200.

That is the M&P15-22 in a nutshell!
Would I swap it for anything, not likely!

Mine started becoming erratic and full of crap (literary and figuratively) after about 200 rd of Remington Thunderbolts and Cylones even with a Volquartzen extractor in, then I had to clean it. I decided to polish the chamber a bit with water sand paper. Used 600, 1200 and 1500 grit water sand paper. Cut it in strips, the width of a case, let the paper soak wet in a glass of water for a while. Stuck the starting edge of the paper onto a "sosatie stokkie" with duck tape, wound it up and started polishing. NB. you do not want to remove metal, you just rounden the microscopic machine mark protrusions in your chamber. Cleaned and oiled the gun a bit and after a couple of 100 dirty Thunderbolts it evens runs effortless with standard velocities. It clearly throws the brass further away than it used to. In our squad we were only 2 guys who did not have any jams during the mini rifle match on Saturday. Both were 15-22's. I think this will make a big difference on any semi .22.

The Cyclones were incredibly dirty! I had quite a number of failures to feed with them. Being too lazy to clean I simply sprayed a whack load of Ballistol and carried on!

The Thunderbolts appear to be slightly less dirty.

    Winny 555's run perfectly.

If you do the polish jobbie then I think it wil run any crap you can feed it. I will start feeding it Cyclones and test my theory. Cyclones is another reason why you must wear safety glasses and I shoot out of the left shoulder so my face is full of black spikkels.

Does anyone in SA supply the Volquartsen extractor?

What other upgrades are recommended for the 15-22?

The extractor upgrade is a necessity for me. Other than that maybe a nice trigger and about 3 cases of ammo.
