    Default Optics for IPSC

While waiting for my PWS MK118 license, I'm contemplating the wide array of optic choices that abounds... Choices choices choices...
First, I have 0 AR shooting experience.
Anyway, here's my take on this so far. My budget is below the R20000 mark. I initially thought I was going to buy the Lynx 1-6x24. Good construction, great glass for the price. Reticle "ok" ish for close work, great for those 100-300m long shots. Illumination not great in daytime. I was pondering mounting the BUIS that the pws comes out with, on the 45deg.I m left handed. Using Warne mounts.

Then I saw a few videos where the 3 gun nation guys uses a red dot on the 45, and a magnified optic on the top. This got me thinking. Aimpoint H1 on the 45, and cheaper magnified, also in the 1-6x range on top.

My question is, what does the more experienced guys suggest? I had a look at all the best stuff at huntex. If I could afford the Leopold or Trijicon VCOG 1-6 I would have got that in a heartbeat(Leopold unfortunately not true 1x). But at those prices... Eish!

The meopta is 1-4x. Good glass but I'm a little bit concerned with the low magnification.

Depending on the trijicon prices, maybe the Aimpoint on the 45 and the 6x fixed trijicon on the top?

Any suggestions? Especially from the shooters out there....

    For IPSC only off course...

    Also consider the following:

    Vortex PST 1-4x
    Vortex Razor Red dot

    Trijicon 1-4x

I ran a Lynx LX2 1-6x24 on top, simple G4 IR reticle, suffice for "long targets" at my local club/provincial leagues (yet to shoot over 200m).
@45deg, I got a Vortex Razor reflex sight for the close targets.
    I'm using Warne RAMP mount.

the new Vortex Strike Eagle (1-6x24) should be out pretty soon?
iirc, budget friendly/designed for 3 gun.

There a few options from March that will work really well in my opinion.
The normal 1-10x24 Hunting model or the 1-10x24 Tactical model both in SFP OR the 1-8x24 in FFP.

the lynx is better suited for my shooting style/application/needs.
hence my Viper PST 1-4 is just collecting dust at the mo.
though not a bad scope by any means.

now days, the scope is fixed on 6x and I shoot all the close stuff (up to about 50m) with the red dot @ 45deg.
I don't even bother flip open scope covers if there are no long targets.
it's definitely faster but shooting with chicken elbow out at all...haha.
it's for comp only so it's ok .

I found 6x to be a nice compromise re target magnification vs field of view for "speed" shooting.

Check out the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 AR-BDC. When/if it eventually arrives in SA later this year it should be in the 7-9k range. Then for under 20k you could get an H1 on 45°.

I think I'm going to wait for the Trijicon 1-6x24 Accupoint to hit our shores. I just hope the wait will be worth it. The only gripe I have with it (the Trijicon), is the limited amount, or should I say, UNinteresting crosshairs/reticles they offer with it. I like the segmented circle or horseshoe (like on the VCOG) reticle. I'll have to wait and see. Trijicon has got great glass, at a price, but usually you get what you paid for....

the only thing that can upset the whole thing, is the Vortex Strike Eagle. But, then again, we are waaaiiitingggg......eish....

This reticle on the Triji Accupoint 1-6 will be very usefull imo - I am waiting to see what the dot is like on this one.

    https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/produ...=TR25-C-200089

I currently have a Triji Accupoint 1-4 Green Triangle reticle on my magnified optic MSR.

The 1x setting is true 1x and negates the need for an extra red dot on the rifle imo. It is very usefull, accurate and easy to use on targets out to 200m plus. Imo it will also work well out to 300m considering the ballistics of 55gr and 62gr 5,56 ammo although I have not tried it in competition on a 300 plate or target.
