Gert , I have been playing with the idea of a similar rifle and IMHO the 505 Gibbs is the better caliber , may I ask why you chose the 500 Jeff over the 505 Gibbs ?

I prefer the 505 Gibbs because of the case capacity .

Maybe he chose the 500 Jeff to compliment his 404 Jeff?

You need a true magnum action for a 505 Gibbs. The 500 Jeff can be built on a Mauser 98 action. If one can get it to feed 100% (like my 450 Rigby) it's a great stopper. If it feeds 99% it's the perfect decoration or range gun.

The one thing that concerns me about some of these is the way in which the feed ramp ends up being altered to such an extend to feed the wider bullet that it sometimes significantly weakons the lower locking lug on a 98.

Have you got the buff horn for the grip cap Gert? If not I can try and get for you - mahala of course. I know it's earlydays but you need to know it's properly matured

    Hallo Rigby

I did not decided on the .500 Jeffery specifically ....we are building drop out magazines for two .500 Jeffery rifles in the gunsmith shop currently. I had to do research on the subject , how to make it feed, what to change in the magazine box, the feeding ramp , the feeding rails ect.(although Johan Greyling already knows what to do )...since it is difficult to make a .500 Jeffery feed according to knowledgeable people I decided to focus on this issue and want to be able to make a .500 Jeffery feed without any problems....I did acquired some knowledge regarding the building of the magazines in the gunsmith shop...brass and bullets can be supplied by Stewart bullets/brass...local is the way to go....re-loading dies will be possible to get abroad...I am going to follow a specific concept to make the .500 Jeffery feed without possible problems...I am positive that I will be getting it right...

The .500 Jeffery will compliment my 404 Jeffery as well ...
