Default Shortening a rifle barrel. What form to fill in?

As per the topic I am wanting to shorten the barrel of one of my rifles to make a lighter, handier gun. What process needs to be followed?

This all needs to be done by a gunsmith.

What paperwork? Give it to a gunsmith and tell him how short and that is it

It's not that simple. You need permission, unless it's in the course of a repair.

I don't think even I could damage a crown back 5.5 inches. It'll have to be an actual job and not a repair so yes.

    How do you get permission?

So if the crown is damaged and needs to be repaired by shortening the barrel, this can be done without the paperwork?

Oh the crown is damaged. Oh the crown is damaged. Oh the crown is damaged?

But seriously my gunsmith said maybe up to an inch could be seen as a repair more is changing the barrel.

You sure there isn't pitting in the bore 5 inches back?

There is a form on 5-oh's website. Fill it in, send it in and wait I guess.

I think gwjDickdeKock did something like that to a Howa. Shortened the barrel to 16 inches.
